The Trinity River Challenge is a laid-back beginner-friendly paddle sport race held every September to raise money for the river-related causes that the Dallas Downriver Club supports. The race course is a stretch of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River between Carrollton and Lewisville, Texas.
Start Time:
Racers in the first group should be prepared to go to the boat ramp by approximately 9:40am. Each boat must be checked off by number at the boat ramp before being launched. All boats must stay within 75 yards of the starting line and be visible to the Official Race Starter and timing judges after being launched. Once all boats are launched, the Official Starter will call all boats to the starting line and begin the race at a time of his or her choosing.
The Recreation race will be 6 miles. Starting at McInnish Park, continuing 3 miles up river to the IH 35 Bridge and back to McInnish Park.
The 12 Mile race will be starting at McInnish Park, continuing 6 miles up river to the Hebron Parkway Canoe launch and back to McInnish Park.
The race is run as an up and back race starting and finishing at McInnish Park. This eliminates the need for shuttling
The race has grown in popularity and participation over the last few years and now has participation of up to 150 paddlers each year.
For their entry fee and participation, the racers receive a Trinity River Challenge T-shirt and a hot lunch. T-shirt quantities are limited, so anybody registering early will be guaranteed a T-shirt, and the remaining quantities will be made available to registrants on a first come basis.
Racers compete in a wide range of boat classes in Solo Canoe, Kayak, Tandem Canoe and Kayak Divisions out for a day of fun on the river Special awards are also given for the fastest times by age groups and the overall fastest time.
Not a racer? Fear not, as the TRC needs more that a few good volunteers to help with all sorts of things on Race Day. Racers get a free tee shirt and lunch, what a deal! Sign up to volunteer on the race entry page when registration opens.
